Schools out for Summer!

For the last four or five years Sara and I have ended our school visit season in Greenwich Connecticut at Eastern Middle School. We spend three days with the sixth grade each year and we have a blast. One, because we know we are putting another eventful and rewarding year into the books and two because we know we are going to be doing so at a super school.

We are so excited to work at Eastern that one year Sara had us show up a week early – we peered into the dark hallway from outside noses pressed against the locked doors like ragamuffins in a Dickens novel until the realization that the school was on Spring break finally dawned upon us.  We drove back home (8.5 hours) and did it again the next week.

We had the dates right this time and as expected our visit was a terrific time. We did a get-to-know-you assembly then followed up with writing workshops. Our hosts, Language Arts teachers  Bridget and Danielle always roll out the red carpet for us. We are humbled by the support we get from the administration and PTA. No sooner do we begin working than we are planning our next visit.

We love this little school – and feel a little homecoming every time we go here.
